budgeting transformation

BSL choose Board International and GK Horizons to assist in their budgeting transformation.

A not-for-profit (NFP) social justice organisation, Brotherhood of St Laurence work alongside people experiencing disadvantage. They seek to address the fundamental causes of poverty in Australia.

The main objective of the implementation was to replace BSL’s complex and time-consuming Financial Planning and analysis (FP&A) process with a fast and efficient digitised process.

”We identified a need to budget quicker with more accuracy. We were using spreadsheets, and when exceeding a certain size, they became less efficient. It was taking us eight months to complete the budget with roughly 14 iterations.” – Christine How, Former FP&A Manager, BSL.

BSL chose Board and GK Horizons as their implementation partners after a diligent selection process, including multiple referees and success stories from the NFP sector.

BSL’s team enjoyed a positive experience with GK Horizons’ input throughout the implementation process ensuring a successful outcome within the timeline.

”…we had a specific timeline that we defined when we put forth the project, and I can say for certain GK Horizons met and delivered every aspect of the project…GK Horizons can tailor an off-the-shelf product to a not-for-profit business model. Also, throughout the project, the GKH team were agile and helpful. They were quick to pivot when issues arose to ensure our requirements were always met ” – Kevin Eng, Business Analyst, BSL.

Moreover, Kevin Eng expressed the successful outcomes of the implementation:

  • Our budgeting process takes 1/3rd of the time, giving us more time to analyse the data.
  • Employee productivity and work-life balance have improved, and
  • Budget owners are making more timely and relevant decisions.
